Andreas Woelfl
Visionary, pioneer and architect of modern investment solutions
Andreas Woelfl is considered one of the leading minds and pioneers of the European landscape for actively managed exchange traded products (ETPs). As founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of iMaps Capital Markets Group, he has significantly revolutionized the way in which asset managers securitize investment strategies and make them tradable.
A career on the stock market -
From the beginnings to innovation
Andreas Woelfl’s passion for the financial markets was awakened as a teenager. He was already intensively involved in the stock market during his school years, which led to his first internship in 1995, where he traded financial instruments professionally for the first time. This early practical experience laid the foundation for his studies in business administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (1995-1999), which he completed with distinction. His diploma thesis on the implied volatility structure on the EUREX and Monte Carlo simulations for option price valuation underlined his analytical focus on complex derivatives even back then.
After completing his Master’s degree, he began his career at the Vienna Stock Exchange, where he worked in index management and market control for the derivatives market. As team leader for Austrian indices, he developed a platform for customized indices that served Austrian banks as underlyings for structured products – a forerunner of his later entrepreneurial activities.
The pioneer of Exchange Traded Instruments (ETI)
Andreas Woelfl has been a successful entrepreneur since 2001. He was a consultant for Morgan Stanley Capital Indices (MSCI), founded an online stock market newspaperand, as the main shareholder and member of the Board of Directors, led the strategic realignment of the German Bankverein Werther AG from retail banking to asset management before realizing his stake with high profits.
However, his true pioneering achievement lies in the area of financial product innovation:
- 2009: He listed one of the first "Exchange Traded Instruments" (ETI) on a European stock exchange, creating a flexible, cost-efficient alternative to traditional funds.
- 2016: Andreas Woelfl proved his visionary power in the field of digital assets. Long before cryptocurrencies hit the mainstream, he listed one of the world's first Bitcoin ETIs on Deutsche Börse and in Gibraltar in July 2016. At a time when the Bitcoin price was still below the USD 1,000 mark, he already recognized the immense potential of the libertarian alternative currency.
- Today: With iMaps Capital Markets, he offers a global white-label platform that enables asset managers and traders alike to package complex strategies - from traditional equities to AI-driven models - in exchange-traded structured securities (Actively Managed Certificates). In addition, by issuing financial instruments linked to the value of alternative funds, iMaps Capital Markets not only offers a feeder structure with exchange trading, but also genuine market access - true to the motto and name inspiration for iMaps - international Market Access Products. iMaps has already achieved several top 5 rankings in the German Certificate Award industry awards

Personal: Strategy on the board and in the world
Away from the financial markets, Andreas Woelfl finds his balance in chess – a hobby that reflects his preference for strategic thinking and logical precision. He recently proved that he plays this sport at a high level at the Liechtenstein National Championship 2025, where he took an outstanding 2nd place in his category.
Andreas Woelfl lives in the Principality of Liechtenstein and is the father of two adult children. His private passion is traveling, exploring the world with the same curiosity with which he identifies new market trends. Whether analyzing a complex derivative or planning the next move, Andreas Woelfl combines Hanseatic reliability (shaped by his time in the German banking landscape) with Austrian charm and international vision.
